LACES ranks No. 10 in California,
No. 73 nationwide

LACES Model United Nations attended the USC Model UN Conference. Lauren Joo, Sophia Toubian, Vivaan Jain, Grace Kim, Simon Goldsmith, and Colin Stackpoole competed with over 400 high school students from around the country.

Japan Bowl Team places 3rd in SC Competition held at LMU

We attended State Qualifiers and did really well- we’re going to states!

Ruby Scanlon won 1st place in Extemp, Isabella Ocañas and myself (Sophie Sanchez) won 2nd place in Duo, and I won 3rd place in Humorous Interpretation. We’re very proud because that means we qualified to go the California State Tournament! Ruby will be participating in Extempt there, and Isabella I will be participating in Duo!

LACES places in the top 17% of all teams in the LA/SoCal region.

CONGRATULATIONS TO STUDENTS AND STAFF FOR ALL OF THEIR HARD WORK THIS YEAR IN IMPROVING TEST SCORES ON THE STATE TEST (SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT). THE INCREASES WERE SIGNIFICANT. ESPECIALLY NOTEWORTHY IS THAT 85% OF ALL 11TH GRADES MET OR EXCEEDED STANDARDS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS. UNDER THE NEW TESTING SYSTEM, MATH AND ELA ARE NOT JUST REPRESENTATIVE OF THE WORK DONE IN MATH AND ENGLISH COURSES, BUT INSTEAD ARE A REFLECTION OF COURSEWORK IN ALL CLASSES.

Congratulations to the LACES Middle School Science Bowl team which took 2nd place in the regional Middle School Science Bowl competition held February 4, 2017 at Cal State LA! Our team competed against 18 other teams representing 15 schools. Members of the team are Phillip Jeong (captain), Mateen Markzar, Jack Toubes, Emily Kim, and Chitsein Htun, coached by Mr. Noguchi. They were defeated by Harvard-Westlake in double elimination.

23 LACES students were invited to Japan by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in December. They visited Tokyo and Oroku HS in Okinawa. This reciprocal exchange made our relationship ties with each other even deeper. We are now sister schools.

At this year’s state qualifying competition the LACES Speech and Debate Team had another outstanding performance. Austin Moore, Jared Stone and Ruby Scanlon qualified for the state tourney and all took home trophies in their categories. Lauren White qualified as an alternate. Special thanks to Mrs. Sandberg for supporting the team. Congratulations!

Many congratulations to the Middle School Science Bowl team – coached by Mr. Noguchi – who came in 2nd in the Regional Science Bowl Competition. After the LACES team managed to defeat two Harvard-Westlake Teams in the double elimination tournament, the H-W team managed to eak out a 54 – 42 win over the LACES group. Congrats to all. It was fantastic performance in a very close contest.

Our two high school science bowl teams competed this past weekend at the LA regional competition. Both teams won enough matches in the round robin to qualify for playoffs. Our A team made it to the championship finishing second. Congratulations to our LACES Science Bowl teams!
